Overview

The Medical Birth Center is located as a nursing unit in Nara Medical University Hospital. It was relocated to a new building in September 2016, and it currently consists of 8 rooms, all private.

In the center, pregnant/parturient women and newborns with normal course are cared for mainly by midwives. During pregnancy, doctors and midwives alternatively conduct health assessment. At childbirth, mothers give birth to their children, with other family members present and midwifery attendance. Those with abnormalities during pregnancy or delivery are transferred to the obstetrics ward in the same building based on doctor instructions. Despite being located in a university hospital, the center creates a family-like atmosphere, as well as a sense of security, as it provides immediate medical intervention in the event of an abnormality.

Currently, the in-hospital midwifery service division is closed as a COVID-19 control measure.
